FDC - Work Experience

This is something which happened a while back now but just haven't had chance to blog about it due to major stress of final years exams!

I recently went to visit a graphic design company in Ibstock, Leicester for the day, I felt that it would give me an insight into the career path I am thinking of and it certainly did. The company deals with all the different aspects of the design process from the actual designing to the coding of websites, basically everything. I sat down with the graphic designer whilst he did his day to day job quizzing him on how he did things and what programs he used. The thing I will definitely take away is how methodical the whole process was and how the design is more about what the client wants and not you personally, although the designers input is very important, at the end of the day the client knows their business better than you ever will. This is a skill of which I think I will have to work on as up until now I have only designed things for myself or an exam but I look forward to learning these new skills.

I also got given a task to choose the branding of a certain company, they had already chosen the logo they wanted but I analysed 5 or so logos and eventually came to a conclusion, the final logo was not what I would of picked but this further demonstrated the skills of designing for the specific company.

I will hopefully be visiting them again over summer and may be helping then on an event to which they are organising so exciting things to come!

This is their website http://www.fdcstudio.co.uk/
Alot of their work is recognised companies such as Outback, British Sugar, NHS
They also have a blog too which you can find on their website.
